This May half-term, we had the great pleasure of taking part in the three-day Repair Don’t Replace event at Midsummer Place, held from 29–31 May 2025. Alongside our friends from the Repair Cafés and in collaboration with WD-40 Company, we rolled up our sleeves to help the community breathe new life into everything from broken toys to worn-out toasters.
For us at Men in Sheds MK, it wasn’t just about fixing things—it was about making connections, sharing skills, and championing a more sustainable way of life. As always, our shed was buzzing with enthusiasm and elbow grease, and the conversations flowed as freely as the tea.
A Hub of Community Spirit
The centre was alive with energy from 10 AM to 4 PM each day. People of all ages dropped in, bringing with them a wide range of items and plenty of stories. We had the chance to repair everything from lamps to latches, buttons to bicycles. Many guests were curious about what we do at the shed—and we were more than happy to tell them.
Learning, Laughing, and WD-40
Of course, with WD-40 supporting the event, there were plenty of squeaky hinges and rusty screws that didn’t stand a chance. Their team brought an extra level of energy (and a few friendly mascots!) that made the experience all the more enjoyable—especially for the kids, who loved spinning the wheel and grabbing a selfie with the WD-40 can in costume.
The Repair Café volunteers were, as always, brilliant. Their passion and patience were on full display, offering guidance and quick fixes to grateful guests. It was a real joy to work shoulder-to-shoulder with like-minded tinkerers and teachers.
Celebrating Skills That Matter
At Men in Sheds MK, we believe in the power of making, mending, and mentoring. Events like this are a perfect reminder of how valuable hands-on knowledge is—and how sharing it brings people together. Whether it was helping someone repair their grandfather’s old radio or simply having a chat about tools and techniques, every moment was meaningful.
We want to say a big thank you to Midsummer Place, WD-40, and our fellow repair heroes for hosting such a welcoming and worthwhile event. And most of all, thank you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, or trusted us with their treasured items.
Until next time—keep fixing!
